English Language---Funny Facts

English is currently one of the most widely spoken and written languages worldwide, with some 380 million native speakers. Spoken by one out of every six people in the world,it is the primary language of the United States, the U.K., Australia, New Zealand and, partly, Canada. There are lots of interesting facts about the language.I would like to share a dozen with you.

  • The only word that has 15 alphabets not reused in it “uncopyrightable?
  • The longest word in the English language, according to the Oxford English Dictionary, is pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconiosis.
  • The only other word with the same amount of letters is pneumonoultramicroscopicsilicovolcanoconioses, its plural. “Sixth Sick Sheik's Sixth Sheep's Sick" is one of the hardest sentences to pronounce in the English language.
  • ”quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog?" has the 26 alphabets in it.
  • The word "queue" is the only word in the English language that is still pronounced the same way when the last four letters are removed.
  • "Almost" is the longest word in the English language with all the letters in alphabetical order.
  • "Rhythm" is the longest English word without a vowel.
  • No word in the English language rhymes with month.
  • "Dreamt" is the only English word that ends in the letters "mt".
  • "Underground" is the only word in the English language that begins and ends with the letters "und."
  • The longest one-syllable word in the English language is "screeched."
