The one and only bone in the human body that is not connected to another bone is the hyoid bone, a U-shaped bone at the base of the tongue.It is supported by the muscles in the neck,but it is not connected to any other bone.It helps man to produce the wide range of sounds.Due to its position, the hyoid bone is not susceptible to easy fracture. In a suspected case of murder, a fractured hyoid strongly indicates throttling or strangulation. However this is not the case in children and adolescents where hyoid bone is still flexible .
